Are you taking enough care of yourself?
In a world where we only ever seem to get busier, it’s important to stop once in a while and restock. But it’s easy to forget to look after yourself when you’re busy looking after others. Or completing an endless to-do list.
Don’t worry, we’re here to help! Read on for these seven ways on how to practice self care to get you started.
1. Meditate and Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of focusing on the present. When you’re working too hard, or stressed, it’s easy to get caught up worrying about the future. You end up fretting about things you can’t control right now.
By meditating and practicing mindfulness, you learn to focus on the now. You can train your mind to pack those worries away. You can get help to do this on places like YouTube, and also phone apps. Calm and Headspace, for example, are great choices.
2. Be Unproductive
For people who feel busy and overwhelmed, time feels like a luxury. It’s easy to fall into a trap where you feel you have to be productive all the time. But sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is nothing at all.
Instead, do things like:
- Binge-watch a series or films on Netflix or another video provider
- Take a nap, or enjoy a hot bath to relax your muscles
- Do a spa night with a face and hair mask
- Sit and enjoy a coffee, and people watch for a while
- Do anything that brings you joy
If you’re doing a spa night with a nice bath, why not treat yourself to some CBD oil for skin. You can get in bath bomb form to add a little extra luxury. You can also get muscle cream for all those aches and pains.
3. Find Your Flow
Find what makes you flow, or gets you in the zone. There will be activities that fully engage, energize, and focus you. And from that, you’ll get a deeper experience of involvement and enjoyment.
These activities will be different for each person, and you likely already have a sense of what you like. It could be anything, here are a few examples:
- cooking
- photography
- cycling
- horse riding
- playing an instrument
- drawing/painting
- writing
- reading
It doesn’t matter what the activity is. Only that it makes you feel happy, vitalized, refreshed, and not overwhelmed when doing it.
4. Do Something You Loved as a Child
For most of us, the last time we felt completely carefree and happy was when we were children. You can’t go back to that time, but you can bring some of that pure joy back by picking up an old hobby.
For example, for a lot of people, picking up a coloring book again help destress and calm us. It’s also great fun to see if you can still stay inside the lines. This is because it was so much fun when you were younger.
It doesn’t have to be coloring, pick any hobby or interest you loved as a child. It’s never too late to go back to something, and the happiness it will bring is priceless.
5. Enjoy Some Alone Time
Whether you’re an extrovert or introvert, everyone can use some alone time. It’s time to think, recharge, and unwind without interruption.
It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you switch off from everything and everyone around you. You could go shopping, enjoy a coffee in your favorite store, read a book or listen to a podcast.
You could even take the time to sit outside in the backyard and enjoy the nature around you. There is nothing wrong with having some quiet time and enjoying the silence.
6. Have a Break
Like having some alone time, every now and then, you need to getaway. Switch off from life’s demands and take a break from life. If you’re on a budget, you can try a staycation, or visit friends and family.
Or if you can save up, then a vacation is a great way to recharge. There is something very restorative about breaking routine and changing your surroundings.
There are great deals to be had. You can go somewhere you can drive to, or wait for airfare sales. Hotel comparison sites also offer great packages or individual deals.
Whatever your budget and desire, it’s important to get out of the office and the house. Take a break from the daily grind and recharge your batteries.
7. Enjoy a Massage
Often, you don’t realize how tense and tight your muscles are until…well they aren’t. That physical release will not only benefit your body, but it’ll help relax your mind too.
Booking for a massage doesn’t mean splashing out on an expensive, fancy spa either (but you can if you want!). You can contact your local chiropractor who may have a masseuse or can recommend one.
A lot of the time, on sites like Groupon, you can get discount vouchers. Or have a look at your local massage school as they will sometimes offer discounts. This is to help their students practice.
If you have aches and pains, you can get CBD oil that comes in massage oil form. A great accompaniment for that massage you’re treating yourself to.
It’s important to look after your body, especially if you’re running a busy schedule. If your body is in pain, listen, and take care of yourself. It’s trying to tell you something. There is no point running yourself ragged to end up needing more intensive treatment.
