If you’ve ever watched anything on the home improvement channel, you probably have big dreams of demolition day and how to completely remodel your home.

But as soon as you sit down to start the process it can quickly become overwhelming.

If you’re wondering how to remodel a bathroom, you’ll want to keep reading.

How to Remodel a Bathroom

Let’s divide this into easy steps from start to finish. Keep in mind that you could always look for remodeling services if you want to save on time and money.

Step 1. Plan and Budget

It’s time to sit down and think about what you want to do with the space. Consider how much of a budget you have. If you want to move plumbing lines you’ll need a large budget than if you just want to change the wallpaper and update the toilet.

Step 2. Demolition Day

Here comes the fun part! It’s time to knock down walls (if that’s part of your design plan) and tear down old appliances. As tempting as it can be to take a sledgehammer to the nearest breakable object, keep it controlled and organized. You’ll save a lot of time and money later on if you stick to the timeline and clean as you go.

Step 3. Plumbing

If part of your design plan is new plumbing features, it’s time to add these in. If you’re not a certified plumber it’s probably a good idea to hire someone, at least for this step, because plumbing errors will cost a lot of money down the road.

Step 4. Electrics

If you’re installing new electrical wiring it’s probably best to hire a professional. Similarly to plumbing, errors with wiring are not only expensive, but they’re also very dangerous.

Step 5. Walls

It’s time to finish the walls. You’ll want to finish putting up drywall or material specific to your shower. Once these are completed and dried you can begin painting or putting up wallpaper.

Step 6. Install Tile

Laying down tile is the next step. Do the shower or bathtub enclosure first and then continue to the rest of the wall before moving onto the floor. Make sure to finish with grout to keep everything leak-proof and cleanable.

Step 7. Shower Door, Lights, and Exhaust

Things are starting to come together! Put on your shower door before installing the lights and the exhaust fan.

Step 8. Vanity and Toilet

We’re nearly there! Install the vanity of choice before moving onto your toilet. The toilet installation will probably be the easiest part of the process so check out installation guides and see if you could do it yourself before paying someone else.

Step 9. Accessorize

The hard part is done! Now it’s time to accessorize. Finish by installing light switch plates and towel racks. Finish accessorizing with soap dispensers, towels, and bath products.
