Top Four Political Moms and Power Parents

Gone are the days where women had to sacrifice their political dreams to stay at home and take care of the children.

Well, some people still think that should happen. But there are plenty of political power parents that defied societal expectations to have successful careers while raising children.

Representation is important for people to believe that they are capable of the same achievements. Wondering who those politicians who are parents are? Here are some of the most inspirational parents in politics for you to look up to.

1. Michelle Obama and Barack Obama

They were once the most famous parents in the world. President Barack Obama took office in 2008 when his daughters, Malia and Sasha, were only 10 and seven years old. Sasha was the youngest child in the White House since 1961 and Time magazine named them both in their 2014 list of influential teens.

Since leaving the White House in early 2017, Michelle and Barack Obama have both released memoirs named Becoming and A Promised Land.

2. Meghan McCain and Ben Domenech

While Meghan McCain is not a politician, she is one of the latest recruits to the celebrity moms club. And, she is the TV personality daughter of Senator John McCain.

She and her husband, Ben Domenech, introduced their daughter Liberty in 2020. McCain called for paid maternity leave while hosting The View. She noted that the USA is the only developed nation that does not offer paid leave for new parents.

3. Jacinda Arden and Clarke Gayford

The 40th prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Arden is the poster mom for raising kids in politics. She gave birth to her daughter, Neve Te Aroha, while still holding office. Arden is only the second head of government to give birth while in the position.

Her partner, Clarke Gayford, is a stay-at-home dad and they are both huge inspirations for wannabe power parents everywhere.

4. Kate Middleton and Prince William

Kate Middleton is one of the most famous moms in the world as she is the mother of the future king of England. Though she is not a politician, Middleton and her husband Prince William are both power parents and do a lot of work for charity. She is also a fashion icon and most of her affordable outfits sell out after she wears them.

Her children are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

4. Candace Owens and George Farmer

Conservative political activist and commentator Candace Owens gave birth to her first child in early 2021. She is notable for being a black woman yet a vocal opponent of the Black Lives Matter movement and a fan of former President Donald Trump.

Owens’s husband is the English conservative and Oxford graduate, George Farmer. You can find more info about the birth and her family here.
