Why Live in Minneapolis-St. Paul? Here are 7 Reasons

Minneapolis-St. Paul is a metropolitan better known as the Twin Cities. Because most people are polarized toward either the West or East Coast, you probably don’t know much about this area.

But the Twin Cities have so much to offer, so you shouldn’t discount it, especially if you’re thinking of relocating soon.

But why live in Minneapolis-St. Paul? We’ll give you seven reasons!

1. There Are Lots of Parks

If you love to spend time outdoors, then you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of parks in this metropolitan area. There are 180 of them, which span across 6,817 acres of both land and water.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has been recognized by the Trust for Public Land multiple times for being the best urban park system in the entire country. This should be evidence enough that the parks here are superb.

So if you enjoy going on long walks, tossing a frisbee, and having pleasant picnics in wonderful spaces, then Minneapolis-St. Paul is a great place to live.

2. It’s a Bikable Metropolitan

In many parts of the United States, biking is considered just a recreational activity. This means that in a lot of urban areas, there isn’t a good infrastructure to bike safely and conveniently.

However, the Minneapolis-St. Paul area accommodates biking very well. You can have tons of fun hopping on a bike and exploring the metropolitan to discover new things.

In fact, there’s a popular rideshare program called Nice Ride. It’s available in the Twin Cities and gives you an easy way to find available bikes to use. Some workplaces even offer membership discounts to encourage their employees to be fitter.

Not only can you get more exercise by living in the Twin Cities, but you can also do your part in reducing your carbon footprint.

3. It’s Great for Techy People

Sure, there’s Silicon Valley in California, where it’s the place to be if you’re in the tech industry. But California is expensive, and maybe you just want to live somewhere else.

For that, there’s Minneapolis-St. Paul. In the Twin Cities, the technology industry is rapidly growing, which means it’s quickly catching up to Silicon Valley.

This metropolitan was even voted as one of the best places for women in tech! If you fall into this demographic, then you’ll know how dismal the female to male ratio is in your line of work.

In Minneapolis-St. Paul, 25% of the tech workforce is women. While those numbers aren’t fantastic, it’s still higher than in most other places in the country.

4. It Has Great Food and Drinks

If you’re a foodie, then you’ll feel right at home in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Many of the restaurants within the Twin Cities have won awards for their dishes. Plus, Minneapolis is home to cuisines from all around the world, including India, China, Mexico, Germany, and Japan.

Also, there’s a very active coffee culture here. There are so many coffee shops that it’d take you a whole lifetime to try them all!

And for those of you who love beer, you won’t find the beer culture lacking here either. You’ll be able to find plenty of breweries to sample!

5. Rent Is Very Affordable

If you’re used to paying over a grand for a small studio, then you’ll know the pain of shelling out a large chunk of your paycheck for rent. And the worst thing is, you barely get any space and the apartments only look so-so.

If you move to Minneapolis-St. Paul, you’ll be able to rent spacious apartments for much cheaper. There are plenty of 1-bedroom apartments for around $700 per month and 2-bedroom apartments available for around $1,200 per month.

For example, these new apartments are furnished with beautiful granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and Shaker-style cabinets. Plus, there are many amenities, plus they’re pet-friendly.

6. There’s the Minneapolis Skyway System

We won’t deny it: the winters in this area can be very harsh. You’ll need tons of winter gear and chances are, it won’t be pleasant when you head outdoors during this season.

However, the Minneapolis Skyway System more than makes up for these harsh winters. This is an intricate pedestrian footbridge system that’s located in Downtown Minneapolis.

This is the longest continuous system in the whole world and enables you to go shopping or get to work without being exposed to the elements. The inside of the footbridges is climate controlled, which means you’ll feel nice and comfortable as you get around.

This 11-mile skyway system will let you traverse the downtown area easily while letting you witness the beautiful snow that falls outside.

7. It Has the Mall of America

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you’ve most likely heard of the Mall of America. Even if you’re not a fan of shopping, this is a grand spectacle to witness. It’s the biggest mall in the entire country and has over 500 stores.

The mall is so big that it doesn’t just have retail stores. It even has an aquarium, roller coasters, miniature golf, bowling, and live concerts!

Needless to say, you’ve got to go at least once. And when you live in the Twin Cities, it’ll be an attraction you can easily access whenever the weather’s bad and you need somewhere entertaining to duck into.
