While Waiting for Your Weekend Cruise from Miami…
There’s no shortage of things to do and see in Miami. Since you’re going on a cruise, you’re probably going to do your share of sunbathing, so we’ll focus on the amazing attractions within the city.
1. Visit Little Havana
Miami is home to a large community of Cuban expats. If you like food and culture, take a trip to Little Havana and restaurant-hop your way down 8th Street aka. Calle Ocho.
Take in some of the art, watch the dancing, and find yourself a Cuban cigar to sit down and relax with at a park. You’ll be able to kill several hours in Little Havana.
2. Walking Paths
Miami is an incredibly walkable city. In addition to Little Havana, you can take a stroll down Ocean Drive to peek at some of the art-deco homes and shops, which Miami is well known for.
If you get a little overheated, you can go relax in Bayfront Park, which is Miami’s 32 acre, palm-treed haven beside the waterfront. From there, you can watch other cruise ships float by and get a great view of the skyline.
3. Everglades
Time permitting, a trip to Everglades National Park is a must. This is the crown jewel of South Florida, with its 1.5 million acres of swampland, it’s home to gators, crocodiles, snakes, birds, and a litany of other species of animal.
You can get an airboat tour and catch glimpses of all of these animals in their natural habitat. The landscape is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.
4. Sporting Event
Catching a sporting event will depend on timing, but Miami is also home to some beautiful football, basketball, and baseball stadiums. If you do it on a whim, you can catch a Heat or Marlins game for pretty cheap.
If you find yourself arriving back from your cruise on a Sunday and need something to do, heading to a Dolphins game is always a great option. The team might not be very good now, but it’s one of the most historic franchises in the NFL.
5. Visit the Amazing Art Museums
Art-deco isn’t the only thing this sunny city is known for, there are countless art museums in Miami. The Perez Art Museum of Miami is a contemporary art museum, showcasing thousands of one-of-a-kind pieces. Take a 45 minute guided tour to see all of the biggest and most famous works.
If you’re still in an artsy mood, you can scope out the open-air art exhibit at Wynwood Walls. This is an expansive rehabilitated warehouse district with walls painted by some of the world’s most well-known street artists.
