In November 2000, Las Vegas legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. But, it wasn’t until 2015 when the first ever medicinal marijuana dispensary opened. Since then, the use of medical weed has been popular in many other cities and states in the US.
In January 2017, recreational use of marijuana became legal in Nevada. This meant Las Vegas had some preparations to make.
Laws and regulations about the sale of recreational weed include the following:
To buy recreational marijuana, you must be over the age of 21 years old and hold a valid ID.
You are only allowed to buy up to one ounce of marijuana in any sale. But, you can buy any amount of individual ounces over any amount of time.
You can buy and own 1/8th of an ounce of marijuana concentrate.
Those who hold a medical marijuana card are able to buy and own up to 2.5 ounces, and 10,000mg of marijuana concentrates.
If you are selling weed from a dispensary, public advertisements are forbidden. E.g. if a radio show has an audience with over 30% of listeners under 21, they cannot advertise marijuana.
If you are from out of state, or not from the United States, under no circumstances are you allowed to take weed home. This is against federal law. If caught transporting marijuana across state lines or borders, you will face prosecution.

You need to know that it is illegal to smoke or consume marijuana in public spaces. This means you can’t blaze up in your hotel, casinos, bars or public parks.
If you get caught blazing it in any of these places, you could be subject to a $600 fine.
There are more weed-friendly hotels opening up in Las Vegas, so make sure to check before booking. Some Airbnb’s in Las Vegas advertise as weed-friendly, so keep an eye out.
Because smoking in public isn’t allowed, more people are using edibles. People are using brownies, lollies, and gummies to consume weed without detection.
Smoking lounges will be opening up in Las Vegas which will allow you to smoke weed on the premises. But, we may not see these come into place until 2019.
If you work in Las Vegas and decide to smoke marijuana on your work premises, your employer has the right to fire you. But, they aren’t legally obliged to do so and may allow it under certain circumstances.
As for the price of weed, right now an eighth will cost you between $30 – $50.
The Law – Growing Marijuana in Nevada
If you live in Nevada and feel like growing your own weed instead of a dispensary, you can!
It is legal for an individual to grow and harvest up to six marijuana plants, but for personal use only.
There is a limit to 12 marijuana plants at a single house. Any plants you do own you must hide from public view.
From your plant, you’re only allowed to keep up to one ounce, or 1/8th of an ounce of concentrated marijuana.
If you harvest more than one ounce of marijuana from your plant, it is legal to donate it to someone over 21 years old. This must be a donation, as it is illegal to sell marijuana without a license.
If you live within 25 miles of a licensed dispensary, you aren’t allowed to grow your own marijuana. With the increase of dispensaries across Vegas, only those in rural Nevada will be able to grow.

It may seem like there are a lot of rules and regulations for marijuana in Vegas. But they aren’t hard to follow, and you’ll find it easy to enjoy weed during your time there.
