Being an influencer has inspired many people to realize that they can be a part of the media industry, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

With social media trends and platforms changing rapidly, so do the influencers that are involved with them. Most influencers who have been putting out content consistently for years still hold the most followers, make the most money, and are considered the most popular. 1. Liza Koshy

Liza Koshy has been a top influencer since her Vine days. When Vine was taken off the market, Liza moved her followers to other platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. Her YouTube alone has 17.8 million subscribers. 

Since Vine, Liza has always focused on making witty comedy sketches. She is one of the few social media influencers that has transcended the internet, with her own show named Freakish on Hulu, Escape the Night on YouTube Red, and a new movie on Netflix called Work It

2. Chella Man

Chella Man became a top influencer when he began translating songs on YouTube into sign language. He is a deaf LGBTQIA+ activist, artist, model, and has recently played Jericho on the TV series Titans. He identifies as both Chinese and Jewish and is an activist for all types of humans everywhere. 

He created a YouTube channel to discuss gender dysphoria as a transgender person and currently has over 250,000 subscribers. He lives with his partner MaryV, and together they create content while living in New York City, attending college, and traveling the world. 

3. PewDiePie

Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, also known as PewDiePie, has the most popular YouTube channel with over 107 million subscribers. He is a Swedish gamer and comedian, first starting his YouTube channel in 2010 by making commentary “Let’s Play” videos. 

His focus is primarily on making videos involving video games, but he also makes comedy sketches and vlogs. He has included his followers on other platforms such as Instagram and Twitter and has recently created his own apparel line. 

4. Lilly Singh

Lilly Singh began her YouTube career in 2010 under the pseudonym SuperWoman. She created hilarious comedy sketches that spanned from dressing up as and imitating her parents, to discussing serious issues such as women empowerment. By 2017 she was ranked as one of the world’s highest paying YouTubers, currently holding 14.9 million followers on just one of her channels. 

Lilly is another of these influencers that went beyond the platforms of the internet. She wrote a self-empowerment book in 2017 named How To Be a Bawse, and she became the first female queer person of color to host a late-night talk show on NBC in 2019. It was announced in 2020 that she will host her own comedy sketch show on NBC, titled Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh.
